Meet Ruby

From Ruby’s foster mom:
Run free, my sweet Ruby.
Ruby fought so hard and was still the happiest girl, but she deserved to be free. While the steroids helped her for a few days, her breathing started declining last night, and RADS this morning showed that she was full of fluid, which made the decision easier.
Ruby never gave up, never complained, and always acted like she was fine, even when she was facing so many medical obstacles.
Ruby can rest easy now 😢.
I hate this and am devastated, but I am happy for her. She’s free, and that is the best gift that she could get at this point.
Update: 7/29
Ruby had her CT scan yesterday (huge thank you to Mobile Animal CT/ Phoenix), and we received the radiologist’s report tonight, and did not get the news that we were expecting. Her salivary glands are normal and not leaking fluid, but her lymph nodes are enlarged and she has lymphadenopathy. She also has a cranial mediastinal mass in her chest, which could be lymph node related, and could be affecting the drainage of lymphatic fluid.
At this point, she’s been referred to internal medicine for further exploration to find out what this mass is (infection, benign, malignant, etc) and see if she can be treated.
We are all really worried about her, and her foster is devastated.
We will be reaching out to IM tomorrow to see who can get her in.
Please send good thoughts for our sweet Ruby.
Update: CT scan is today, 7/28!
Ruby update!
Sweet Ruby has exhausted every other possible treatment for her jaw/neck swelling (possible sialocele), including exploratory surgery/biopsy/fluid analysis during her dental, and 2 different meds, and her foster will be scheduling her for her CT scan tomorrow. Despite initial improvement after her exploratory surgery, the swelling has come back with a vengeance.
We were hoping to be able to wait to sedate her until her Valley Fever was under control and she was at a healthy weight (currently holding steady at an underweight 3.5 lbs), but we just can’t. Ruby has fought so hard from being unable to open her jaw for a while, Valley Fever, Anaplasmosis, pancreatitis, and she needs this so that we know what is leaking and we can get her to the specialist for the appropriate treatment (likely surgery).
Ruby continues to be “the sweetest girl in the world” and happy, and we are going to make sure that she gets healthy as well!
If you would like to help us continue to help her with her ongoing care, we would really appreciate it!
SOS Ruby needs help!
3.5 year old Ruby just came today, and needs help urgently. She has already been seen by our vet, but Ruby is a hot mess and we are very thankful that her owner for the last month made the decision to surrender her to get help.
Ruby is emaciated and can only open her jaw 1.5cm, so eating is a huge struggle for her. She also has a large swelling under her jaw, which will be aspirated tomorrow to see if it’s an infection or sialocele (saliva filled). Sweet Ruby is also largely non weight bearing on her right hind leg.
So far, radiographs revealed no fractures, so we are going to have to investigate everything further.
For now, her vet tech foster has high calorie wet food to syringe feed her 4 times a day (she also has the ability to tube feed, but Ruby readily ate this afternoon), but she needs serious help!
All of these pictures were taken while she spent the day at work with her vet tech foster.
Please help us help her!
